Before our initial embarkation on the Trans-Siberian Railroad, we stocked up on nuts and dried fruits, bread, meat and cheese (which I forgot in the hostel refrigerator...oops!), instant coffee, boiled garlic-and-dill potatoes (what else would you want to eat in an enclosed space?!), and cookies...
